pLAY rOOM

Kelly's Korner is one of my very favorite blogs! She has been doing this "show me your home" link party for several weeks now...I have wanted to join in, but never really get around to it! So welcome to our (very messy) play room! These are the french doors that lead into the play room...you can't really see it but that little door hanger says "no girls allowed!"
This is what you see when you first walk in...The pillows are silhouettes of both of our boys...
another shot of what you see from the door.... the table is painted with chalk board paint so the boys can color on it!
Some fun pics that I had blown up of our boys! Sammy on the left and Jack on the right....
This looks so messy...but the white shelf has puzzles, and lots of our little toys stored in red bins...To the right you can see the curtains...the long panels are burlap and then the topper is made of a small hounds tooth....This is some fun art work that the boys have done over the years... and then under it is costumes and dress up stuff!
This is one of my favorite things in our whole house...it is a word find with our names and all the future baby names that we like! There is a fun little bell hanging to the left that the boys LOVE to ring!!! The pillows are some floor pillows that I made and had monogrammed...the boys like to lay on them to watch movies or play with them!
This is a sweet little toy box that my parents bought for Jack on his first Christmas!
this is another shot of the top of the window treatment and the black armoire holds our computer/home office...This room is a play room/office/family room....we spend lots of time here!

My friend Brittany came to the house the other day to do a quick little photo shoot with the boys...they are darling!!! I really didn't know what to expect because the boys were definitely not on their best behavior while she was here....but she sent them to me today and I don't know how I'm going to decide!!! They are all so sweet and definitely capture both boys personalities! Her style is so fun! She is one of the most talented people I know and just a super sweet person!
Thanks so much Brittany!

10 Minute Makeover

One of my very favorite blogs is The Nesting Place
Today she is having people link their makeovers to her blog....there are lots of cute things....go check it out!
I have been re-doing a few rooms in our house and I thought I would share them...
I don't have a before but this is the after...this is my dresser from when I was a little girl! It was part of my "big girl" furniture.... I painted it black a few years ago and it sits behind a chair in our living room....I was never 100% happy with the way it turned out so I decided to lighten it up a little! I painted it an antique white and then sanded it and did a fun glaze on it! I am still trying to get use to it but it really lightened up that corner of the living room!
We desperately need a new couch...but with our boys being 2 & 4 I decided it would be better to make a few pillows to spruce up the couch we have and try to get a few more years out of it!
I love my pink kitchen but I have never really loved the stuff that I had above my kitchen cabinets...I just moved around some stuff that we already had and painted some of the things that I wasn't crazy about...it's still a work in progress but I really like it a lot better already!
I made this little no sew table skirt for the living room...
I will post more when I'm done with everything!

A fun thing to do with old Christmas cards

Every year we get the lots of fun Christmas cards from family and friends...I feel so bad just throwing them in the trash...so this year we are doing something with them! Each night at the dinner table we let each boy pick a card and then we pray specifically for that family! The boys love it and it's teaching them te importance of praying for others!

more handmade Christmas

Here are a few of the gifts that I made this year! It was really fun and might become a family tradition! I just might have to start in June next year! I was cutting it a little close this year!
This is the boy's bachelor pad! They both love playing with the houses when we go to toy stores so I thought it would be fun to make them a little man house instead of a doll house...the bed room looks really similar to theirs, there are posters on the walls in the great room of things they are interested in right now...Herbie, Barney, Thomas.... there are two little floor pillows with their monograms on the just like the over sized floor pillows in our play room, there are two flat screen tv's on the walls one in the great room and one in the little room on the bottom right where there is also a hot tub and a basketball goal on the wall...Don't look to close because this one isn't all the way done yet....I will post more later when it is completely finished! This is a family matching game that I made for the boys!
My mom and sister got reusable grocery bags that I painted for each of them with little scarves and kitchen towels that I made for them too....

This is the finished house/fort thingy that I made for the boys! You slide it over a card table...this is the gas station side...the pumps come off and the boys had lots of fun gassing up their cars and big wheels!
The Market side...all of the food is attached by velcro so they can go shopping!
The house side....each side has something that is personalized for the boys...lots of the details are either their birthdays or special numbers, initial....
My two little twin nephews have a Safari themed play room so I painted this for them!

handmade Christmas

I decided to make a few of my gifts this year! It has been so fun...a bit stressful...but so fun! I saw these little felt houses on ETSY a while ago and really wanted to make the boys one...these pics were taken before it was finished and there is one more side that looks like a little house...I will take more pics on Christmas morning...Here is just a little peek at what has been taking every free moment lately! This is the little gas station side "Jarvis 66" instead of Phillips 66.... the gas pumps are attached by velcro so the boys can take them off to play...
The Market side... this one took the longest! Most of the food is attached with velcro and there are two little brown sacks so the boys can go shopping! I tried to do some things that they like a lot...there is a loaf of bread, eggs, milk, ice cream sandwich, doughnuts, carrots, bananas, candy....
The Post Office...this side has a little mail bag with two letters for each member of our family...they are all color coordinated and each person has a little pouch. this will teach Sammy his colors and teach Jack the spelling of our names....
I have made lots of other things too...I just can't post them until after Christmas...
